How Is My Data Backed Up?

As a pig farmer using Pigax, the data you input into the system—ranging from livestock records to medication history and financial logs—forms the digital backbone of your farming operations. The reliability and safety of this data are not just conveniences but essential aspects of running an efficient, legally compliant, and profitable farm. For that reason, one of the most important questions you might ask is: “What happens to my data behind the scenes? Is it securely backed up?”

At Pigax, we understand that your data is critical to your business. That’s why we have implemented a robust backup infrastructure designed to ensure that your farm data is safe, recoverable, and stored in compliance with the highest standards, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This documentation explains the measures Pigax takes to keep your data backed up and available when you need it most.

Data Backup Practices at Pigax

Here is a breakdown of how pigax backup your data

1. Daily Data Backups and Disaster Recovery Protocols

Pigax performs daily data backups to ensure that your farm records are never lost due to unforeseen technical issues. These automated backups capture all the data stored on the platform—including pig records, treatment logs, financial entries, and other operational details—and securely store it in backup environments.

In addition to this, Pigax has an active disaster recovery plan in place. This plan is designed to restore your data swiftly and accurately in the event of a system failure, cyberattack, or natural disaster. By backing up the data daily and maintaining well-defined recovery procedures, we minimize the risk of downtime and data loss, ensuring business continuity for your farming operations.

These data protection measures are outlined in the Data Processing Agreement, which specifically states that Pigax commits to performing daily backups and maintaining protective infrastructure, including fire-safe data centers.

2. Data Storage within the European Economic Area (EEA)

All user and farm data stored by Pigax—including backup files—is hosted on secure servers located within the European Economic Area (EEA). Hosting within the EEA ensures that all data is managed in accordance with the strict requirements of the GDPR and other applicable EU regulations.

Storing data within these jurisdictions provides legal clarity and assurance to users: your information is not transferred to or stored in countries without adequate data protection laws. This geographic restriction offers an added layer of legal and technical security, especially for users concerned about the sovereignty and compliance of their digital data.

3. Encrypted Transmission and Secure Storage

To protect your data both during transit and while it is stored, Pigax uses modern SSL/TLS encryption protocols. This means that when you interact with Pigax—whether by logging into your dashboard, entering pig data, or reviewing reports—all information is encrypted in real-time and cannot be intercepted by unauthorized parties.

In addition to encrypted communication, Pigax also applies strong encryption standards to data at rest, including backup files. These backups are stored in secure environments with firewalls, access restrictions, and security monitoring tools in place. Passwords are stored in encrypted formats, and regular audits ensure that encryption methods meet the latest security standards.

4. Retention Policies and Scheduled Deletion of Backup Data

Pigax retains your data only for as long as it is necessary to provide the service and meet legal obligations. Your farm data is retained for the entire duration your account remains active, and users may delete individual data records at any time.

If you choose to cancel your account, Pigax ensures that all your personal and farm-related data is permanently deleted within 15 days of cancellation, unless legal retention is required. Furthermore, if you are on a subscription plan and choose to cancel it, the system will retain your data for an additional 30 days to give you the opportunity to reactivate your account or download your data. After that period, your data is scheduled for automatic deletion.

These policies are detailed in both the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use and ensure that you remain in control of your data’s lifecycle at every stage.

5. Role-Based Access and Secure Handling of Backup Data

Pigax protects your backup data from unauthorized access through a system of role-based access control. Only authorized employees who need access to maintain or support the platform can view backup environments, and even then, their actions are logged and monitored. All personnel with such access are trained in data security protocols and operate under strict confidentiality agreements.

This means that even internally, your backup data is only visible to those with legitimate technical reasons to access it. Monitoring systems log access and changes, ensuring a full audit trail that supports both accountability and transparency.

6. Continuous Compliance with Data Protection Regulations

Pigax's backup strategy is not just based on best practices—it is grounded in the GDPR’s requirements for data processors and controllers. According to the Data Processing Agreement, Pigax acts as a data processor, while you—the user—remain the data controller. This arrangement means that Pigax processes your data exclusively based on your instructions and never uses it for any purpose outside the scope of the service.

Furthermore, Pigax complies with GDPR Articles 28 and 32, which mandate that technical and organizational measures must be in place to protect the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of personal data. Regular data backups, encrypted transmission, and clearly defined retention policies are all part of this compliance framework.
