Setting the Weaning Age and Growth Stages
The weaning age setting in Pigax allows you to define when piglets should automatically move from the piglet stage into the next production stage. This is an important configuration because it helps your farm records stay accurate as your animals grow.
When the configured weaning age is reached, Pigax automatically updates the piglet’s stage and considers the animal as a pig. This means the animal will no longer remain only under piglet records. It can now appear in other areas of the system where pigs are managed, such as the feeding schedule.
Setting the correct weaning age also helps farmers plan feeding, housing, treatment, and general farm management more effectively. Since piglets have different nutritional and management needs compared to weaners, growers, or finishers, having the right stage settings ensures that each animal is grouped correctly according to its age and development stage.
This feature is especially useful for farms that manage many animals, because it reduces the need to manually update pig stages one by one. Once the age settings are configured, Pigax automatically moves pigs to the next stage when they reach the selected age range.
How to Configure Weaning Age and Growth Stages
Follow the steps below to set the age range for weaners, growers, and finishers.
Step 1: Log in to your Pigax account
First, log in to your Pigax account using your username and password.
After logging in successfully, you will be taken to your farm dashboard.
Step 2: Open Farm Setup
From the main menu, click Farm Setup.
This section contains the settings that allow you to configure important farm information and management preferences.
Step 3: Select General
Under Farm Setup, select General.
This opens the general farm configuration page, where you can manage the age settings for different pig growth stages.
Step 4: Set the growth stage age ranges
On the General settings page, you will see three growth stage settings:
- Start Weaner
- Start Grower
- Start Finisher
For each stage, you can select the start age and end age. These values tell Pigax when a pig should enter and leave each stage.
For example, when a piglet reaches the age configured for Start Weaner, the system will automatically move the piglet into the weaner stage. Once the pig reaches the configured age for the next stage, it will be moved again according to the settings you have defined.
Step 5: Save your settings
After setting the age ranges for the stages you want to use, save your changes.
Once saved, Pigax will use these settings to automatically update the stage of pigs as they grow.
What Happens After Configuration?
After the weaning and growth stage settings have been configured, Pigax will automatically move pigs to the next stage when they reach the selected age.
For example, when piglets reach the configured weaning age, they will be automatically weaned in the system and considered pigs. They can then appear in areas such as the Feeding Schedule, where feeding plans can be managed based on their current growth stage.
This helps ensure that your farm records, feeding plans, and pig management activities remain organized and up to date.
